Are We Competing or Collaborating?

A question that has been lingering on my mind for a while. Since the beginning of Covid and in my job helping small and medium businesses, I started to see a lot of collaboration opportunities. However, I realised along the way that not everyone sees business and life from this same lens.

In discussions with several stakeholders, you either see the world competing / or collaborating. People with growth mindset would see opportunities everywhere. They would open up to the world and maybe help out people doing the same job or owning a similar business, referring clients at times. I’ve done that a lot myself in my coaching business. That in itself opened a lot of doors and made business flow smoother to my end.

When you believe that the world is abundant and that there are resources enough for everyone, this is the energy and the space you place yourself in; therefore this is what you attract. Opportunities start flowing. Is it that simple and easy? Not really, we have to work on some limiting beliefs that we’ve inherited since we were littles kids, to be able to open up to the collaborative mindset and look at ways where we can cooperate. Maybe, at school we thought that we need to look at our own papers, or prepare our own project.

Individual work is important at times. Yet the question we need to ask ourselves is: to what extent is the idea of individualism and coming up with our own ideas affecting our growth and collaboration with others? How is it impacting the way we look at the world and the resources?

Again in business are we competing or collaborating? As leaders, how many times have we told employees that this information is confidential? Beware of competition! Watch out maybe someone else will implement this idea first! Form a business perspective we might have collective limiting beliefs that we might want to work on and reframe for long term growth and sustainability. It’s worth your thought.
